Data and removal
TechTrace is a business intelligence service that records which technologies companies publicly expose.
What we record
- Company details from public sources: name, country, website.
- Domains from the Majestic Million list (CC BY 3.0), the Afnic .fr open data , Overture Maps places (business name, category and town) and public Certificate Transparency logs, with what their public DNS shows and, unless robots.txt says no, what their home page reveals. No page text is kept.
- Technical facts: DNS records, the network hosting a public address, response headers and certificates.
- Technologies named on public company pages and job ads, without keeping the surrounding text.
What we do not record
- Data about people: no names, email addresses, phone numbers or job contacts.
- Sole traders, whose business name is a person's name, as far as this can be recognised.
Recognising a person from text cannot be perfect. If you find something about a person, please tell us below.
Stop the collection on your site
Our collector respects robots.txt. See TechTraceBot for the rule to add. It stops page collection, while public DNS and certificate logs are read elsewhere.
Ask for a removal
A person reviews each request. If accepted, the company's records are deleted and the domain is blocked from coming back. We keep only the domain, so that the block keeps working. Your email address is used to handle the request and erased afterwards. We may ask you to show that you speak for the domain.
